British Pumptrack Series

The pumptrack has been in existence for several years, but recently there has been a surge of new pumptracks appearing in local urban parks. In response to this, we partnered with DC Cycles to create a British series. We also made changes to the old format based on feedback from riders who participated last year.

Instead of a dual knockout format, we now have two heats of three timed runs. One heat is clockwise and the other is anticlockwise, as long as the track allows for both directions. The times from the two runs are combined to determine the winner.

This new format provides more timed runs for everyone and offers a fairer chance to all participants. For the 2023 race, we have reduced the race fee by 25%, making it more accessible to riders. And for 2024, we have managed to further reduce the costs to just £25, which includes insurance levies and the provision of medics to ensure the safety of all riders. We understand that costs can be a burden, so we strive to keep them as low as possible.

We utilize the latest timing system from FDS/Tag Heuer, which includes a gate and laser beam system. This ensures that no matter the wheel size riders choose, everyone starts from the gate with no advantage. In terms of regulations, we operate under British Cycling regulations with some additional rules specific to pumptrack racing.

Bikes can have wheel sizes of 20, 24, 26, 27.5, or 29 inches and can be BMX, BMX Cruizer, Slope/DJ, MTB, or pumptrack specific, but they must have a working rear brake, bar ends or plugs in place, and no stunt pegs.

Full face or open helmets are allowed, although a full face helmet is preferred. Clothing should not be baggy to avoid entanglement in the wheels, and knee pads are recommended. GoPros are allowed on the bike, but not on helmet or chest harnesses

. The race consists of two heats of three timed runs, and the best two timed runs are combined to determine the overall winning time. We follow British Cycling regulations, and the decision of the commissaire/organizer is final. Entry status is subject to Gravity Events terms and conditions.

The entry age for the pumptrack series is from 10 to 16 years old for U16, 16-30 years old for Senior, 30 years old and above for Masters, and Elite is for those who ride at an expert/elite level in MTB or BMX. We are considering adding a rippers class for next year and will adjust practice sessions accordingly.

The winners of the series will be awarded the Official British Cycling National Jersey to wear for the following year. Three rounds are counted, including round 5, and the lowest point rounds will be dropped.

Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce that Amity Bike Co will be giving away a bike. If you participate in four out of five rounds, you will have a chance to win a brand new pumptrack bike.
